SKIP of New York

November Turkey Trot

This Thanksgiving marks the 30th Annual Turkey Trot. It was started when Margaret Mikol, SKIP’s co-founder and Executive Director, discovered that some of our families did not have the resources to celebrate Thanksgiving. And that remains true today. Nearly 80% of the families SKIP serves live at or below the poverty line and are simply unable to purchase a turkey.

For many years, Interstate Foods has generously donated 100 turkeys, while SKIP has purchased or solicited donations of the traditional fixings. SKIP volunteers then assemble the Thanksgiving baskets and distribute them on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving in the New York City area. Our Buffalo and Rochester offices also have Turkey Trots.
